Jennifer Aniston reunited with ‘Friends’ Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow to watch the Emmys: ‘We’ve been roommates since 1994’
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow, stars of the beloved sitcom “Friends,” delighted fans with a surprise mini-reunion during the 2020 Emmy Awards. The trio appeared together in a virtual segment that added a touch of nostalgia to the annual television awards ceremony, which was held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic.
During a live video call with host Jimmy Kimmel, who was broadcasting from an empty Staples Center, Aniston was discussing her nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Apple’s political drama “The Morning Show.” As she spoke, Courteney Cox unexpectedly walked into view, prompting Kimmel to exclaim, “Look at this: Courteney Cox. Courteney’s there?”
Cox responded playfully, “Of course I’m here; we live together,” to which Aniston added with a smile, “Yeah, we’ve been roommates since 1994, Jimmy,” referencing their iconic roles as Rachel and Monica from the hit show.
The fun didn’t stop there. Fellow “Friends” co-star Lisa Kudrow soon joined the virtual gathering, adding to the excitement. Kimmel, surprised by Kudrow’s appearance, remarked, “Unbelievable, Lisa Kudrow, you live there too?” Kudrow responded with her trademark humor, “Yeah, where else would I live?”
In addition to the “Friends” cast, Jason Bateman, star of Netflix’s “Ozark,” made a brief cameo during the segment. Bateman humorously joked that he is living with Aniston “until he goes off to college,” adding to the light-hearted atmosphere of the call.
Although Aniston did not win the Emmy for her role in “The Morning Show,” with Zendaya taking home the award for her leading performance as Rue on HBO’s “Euphoria,” the reunion was a highlight of the evening. Zendaya made history as the youngest actress to win the award at the age of 24.
The surprise reunion came amidst the highly anticipated announcement that Aniston and the entire “Friends” cast are reuniting for an unscripted reunion special on HBO Max. This special will mark the first time the cast has come together since the show ended in 2004, more than a decade after the beloved NBC sitcom wrapped up its ten-season run. The stars will also serve as executive producers and are set to receive at least $2.5 million each for their participation, according to Variety.
“Friends,” which first premiered in September 1994 and concluded in May 2004, has remained a cultural phenomenon and continues to captivate new audiences through reruns and streaming services. The upcoming reunion special is highly anticipated by fans eager to see the original cast back together and reflecting on their time working on one of television’s most iconic series.
